Shaken or Stirred: Best Joints for a Martini in San Diego

Wed, 14th Dec 2016

Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred - when it comes down to the perfect Martini, it's a matter of debate. Technically, the Gin Martini may have come first, but the Vodka Martini, with grains that  imbue flavors of softness and earthiness, is probably the most popular choice. If you like your Martini shaken, then you enjoy tasty, icy shards and tiny air bubbles in your Martini. Those that prefer a silky and smooth Martini will likely have theirs stirred. Whichever your preference may be, there's no denying that the Martini is an iconic cocktail popularized by James Bond and the like. Here's a few of our favorite joints for a Martini in San Diego, where's your spot?

333 Pacific - Oceanside
At 333 Pacific, it's all about the Vodka Martini, in fact, you can select from an impressive list of 100 equally priced vodka's from around the world. Sure, you can get a Classic or Dirty Martini here, but why not try one of the 10 vodka martini specialty cocktails such as my personal favorite, the Cool Cantaloupe, featuring absolut Vodka (or your choice), fresh Orange juice, Cantaloupe Monin, and Spiked Melon shaped to resemble an olive. Hit up 333 during Happy Hour for discounted cocktails, as well as an equally impressive lounge menu featuring tasty favorites such as Kobe Beef Sliders, Spicy Poke Tuna Tacos or the Sweet Chili Calamari.

The Wellington - Mission Hills

With its dark and intimate setting co-mingling with the sound of shakers and the tantalizing aroma of Filet Mignon wafting in the air of the cozy dimly lit room, the Wellington just may be the perfect place to sip on a Martini. I like a dirty Martini that flirts with its dirtier side, the Bombay Dirty, is the perfect mix of perfumy juniper Bombay Sapphire Gin, dry Vermouth, Olive juice, and Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives that pairs perfectly with some of the best steaks in San Diego.

Capri Blu Italian Bistro and Wine Bar - Rancho Bernardo

A swanky cocktail deserves a posh location, at Capri Blu, you get the best of both worlds - fine Italian cuisine set in a contemporary, lavish room and Martini's that will make your senses sizzle. Try the Peartini, which features Grey Goose La Poire Vodka, Amaretto, Lemon, Simple Syrup and enjoy the fresh sensation of balanced tartness and sweetness with each sip. An impressive menu features classics such as Fettuccine alla Fra’ Diavola, an exalting dish featuring Jumbo Shrimp sautéed with a Spicy Tomato Sauce, Garlic and Chopped Tomatoes served on a bed of Fettuccine.

Top of the Hyatt - Downtown San Diego

With its towering 40-story high views of the Pacific Ocean and downtown San Diego, the Top of the Hyatt is the perfect waterfront spot to view the glorious sunset while sipping on a Martini. Try the Meat & Cheese Board, a delectable combination of local & imported meats and cheeses, traditional garnishes, and grilled bread with any of their signature and flavored Martini's and elevate your mood with each sip and bite.
