Best Joints for a Salad in San Diego

Wed, 28th Dec 2016

Salad, it's not just for vegans, vegetarians and furry little rabbits! There's so many tasty options for a salad, of course, finding a dining joint that makes much more than a simple house salad might be a challenge. Forget about those all-you-can eat buffet places where who knows who has hovered their nose over that once crisp salad, infiltrating the area with germs. No, forgo all that nonsense and head to one of these dining joints in San Diego that are cleaner and cater to the salad eater in all of us, whether you're a veg-head or a full-blown carnivore.

URBN Coal Fired Pizza - Vista

If URBN Pizza made a cameo in an old school Batman and Robin episode, you'd surely hear Robin exclaim, "Holy toppings Batman, this Chicken Salad is loaded!" That's because the URBN Salad is loaded with field greens, pear, gorgonzola, walnut brittle and a heaping dose of perfectly prepared and cooked chicken that's topped off with a tasty house vinaigrette that'll make your taste buds explode. Tip: their pizza is pretty darn good too and though beer is served at URBN, they will deliver to Mother Earth Brewery, which is conveniently located right across the street.

Tender Greens - Downtown San Diego

Fresh picked daily, you can taste the freshness with each mouthful of Tender Greens' salads, such as the Happy Vegan, a huge smile-pleasing salad featuring farro wheat with cranberry and hazelnuts, quinoa with cucumber and beets, green hummus, tabbouleh, and baby greens. Meat lovers will salivate over the Backyard Steak salad with butter lettuce, arugula, radishes, red and gold beets, horseradish vinaigrette and a heaping dose of mouthwatering steak. Tip: other San Diego locations include Point Loma, Mission Valley and UTC/La Jolla (menu may vary.)

Big Front Door - North Park

Open wide as you enjoy a deliciously tasty salad at The Big Front Door. The salad's here are a B.F.D (I'm sure you can figure out the acronym) thanks to creative and plentiful salads such as the Duck Cranberry, a delectable feast for the senses featuring cranberry, roasted walnuts crumbled maytag, orange vinaigrette and shredded duck that'll have you quacking in delight. Order the berry delicious Avoberry salad featuring strawberry, avocado, cucumber, red onion, almond, goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette and it's easy to see why this is one of North Park's newest casual dining joint hot spots. Tip: wine is served and you can always order food to-go.

The Hills - La Mesa

Head to the hills of La Mesa and look for The Hills, a local pub featuring one of my favorite salads, the Superfood Salad. The Superfood Salad packs a healthy dose of shredded brussels sprouts and kale-shredded parmesan along with toasted almond and craisins tossed with a citrus vinaigrette that provides you with the super-human strength needed in life. Of course, if it's binge week, you can still enjoy the Buffalo Chicken Salad featuring iceberg lettuce, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato, crispy buffalo chicken and ranch dressing that complements the many local San Diego craft beers on tap!
